1. Choose the Right Club: The first step to getting out of a bunker is selecting the appropriate club. Use a 56° sand wedge or a 60° lob wedge. These clubs have a high degree of loft and bounce, making lifting the ball out of the sand easier.
2. Open your club face: Opening the club face adds more loft to the golf club, which will help get the ball out of the bunker easily.
3. Take a solid stance: When you’re in a bunker, taking a solid stance is essential. Start by positioning your feet shoulder-width apart, bending your knees slightly, and pressing your feet into the ground. This will help you maintain balance and make it easier to strike the ball cleanly.
4. Hit behind the ball: Place your ball forward in your stance and aim to strike approximately 2 inches behind it. You don’t need to lift the golf club when making your swing. Instead, focus on hitting the sand with speed. This will create a cushion of sand that helps lift the ball out of the bunker.
5. Follow through: Finally, remember to complete your swing. This will help you get the ball out of the bunker and onto the green.
